Private coaching. Additional practice.

We tutor tailored to the school curriculum; one-on-one weekly sessions to help with lessons and homework, and prepare for quizzes and tests.

You have a child who does well at sports. You see that he might have a chance at a career as an athlete. What do you do? You get him a coach.

That's what a tutor is. A coach for skills people need every day.

Armstrong Tutoring can provide that coach.

Hiring a private tutor is now for everyone: from honor students who would like a little extra practice to struggling students who cannot succeed without it. Like taking private lessons with a baseball coach or a piano teacher, hiring a tutor is becoming more common. And with acceptance into colleges as competitive as it is today, parents are finding an investment in a tutor a wise investment. What student wouldn’t benefit from additional practice? That’s what we have to offer: private coaching and additional practice.

All of our tutors are highly qualified in their related field, most are state certified teachers, many have a Master’s degree, and a few have their Ph.D. Tutors are chosen due to their extensive knowledge of the subject matter, effectiveness of teaching vs. telling, and friendly personalities. We all know that having a vast knowledge of information does not make someone a good teacher. For actual learning to take place, the teacher must be able to explain concepts in a way that students can understand and must also be able to connect and develop a good rapport with their students.

Our tutors meet their students usually once or twice a week for either one hour or one and a half hours. During the session the tutor will help with any questions the student may have, re-teach any lessons that are not understood, help with homework, prepare for upcoming quizzes or tests, and with time permitting, teach the next few lessons in advance of the class. If our tutor has already taught the lesson by the time the teacher presents it to the class, the student has already heard it once and therefore it makes more sense when she hears it again, she is able to participate more in class, and it boosts her self-confidence.
